About your trip

Private Lough Derg, Lady Gregory, Yeats & Bunratty Castle Private Tour from Limerick

This is a full-day, private, chauffeur-driven tour from Limerick taking in Lough Derg, Killaloe, Coole Park and Nature Reserve, Yeats’ Tower, the Burren, and Bunratty Castle. It’s a relaxed, scenic day with plenty to see along the way, moving at your pace with your own driver.

The route makes a natural loop through Clare and Galway, so you’re not backtracking, and you get a good mix of landscape, history, and literary heritage.

What you’ll see on the day:

Lough Derg & Killaloe

Leaving Limerick, you’ll follow the River Shannon to Killaloe and Ballina, two pretty towns on either side of the bridge over Lough Derg. This is one of Ireland’s largest lakes and a well-known rowing and sailing area.

Your driver can stop for photos along the water, at the bridge, or at viewpoints overlooking the lake.

Coole Park – Lady Gregory’s Estate

From there, you continue into County Galway to Coole Park, the former home of Lady Augusta Gregory, a key figure in the Irish Literary Revival and co-founder of the Abbey Theatre.

You’ll arrive at the main area of the estate, with time to take in the setting and learn a bit about its history and its connection to writers such as W.B. Yeats and George Bernard Shaw.

Thoor Ballylee (Yeats’ Tower)

A short drive away is Thoor Ballylee, the stone tower house where W.B. Yeats lived for a time in the early 20th century. It sits beside the River Cloon and is one of the most recognisable literary landmarks in Ireland.

Your driver will give you time here for photographs and to appreciate the surroundings.

Drive through the Burren

You then travel through part of the Burren, a distinctive limestone landscape in County Clare. The scenery is open and rocky, with old stone walls, scattered farms, and, in season, a surprising variety of wildflowers.

This stretch of road is one of the most scenic parts of the day.

Bunratty Castle & Folk Park

The final major stop is Bunratty Castle, a restored 15th-century castle near Shannon. You can go inside the castle and, if you wish, spend some time in the adjacent Folk Park, which recreates rural Irish life from the 19th century.

Your driver will wait nearby while you visit.

Return to Limerick

After Bunratty, you’ll be driven back to your hotel or preferred drop-off point in Limerick.
